Meritum Cloud’s Managed Service Provision far from grey for DonElec Group
The DonElec Group, established and family-run in Yorkshire, UK since 1947, is at the forefront of process automation, control panel manufacturing, and electronic control engineering.
Specializing in the design and manufacture of electronic microprocessor-based sensors and controllers as well as control panel manufacture the group has evolved from the production of valve technology in the 1950s to the intelligent programmable controllers of today.
The Challenge
Although I am an accountant by profession, I’ve always had a mild obsession with IT. I can’t seem to let it go! At the start of 2019 I was beginning to develop a vision of what I wanted for DonElec’s IT infrastructure.
I had a conceptual desire to move away from on-premise to cloud computing and to utilize new and emerging technology to help us serve our customers and stakeholders better.
Whilst our incumbent IT provider wasn’t doing anything wrong, I got the feeling that they weren’t really behind what I was after.
The Solution
An engineer came over from Poland to help us with the setup of our PCs, and this worked well as he was able to introduce himself to the team.
Whilst it was work that could have happened remotely, I’m a strong believer in the value a personal visit can add. The whole process is so much easier when you have built the relationships.
By the way, Meritum Cloud’s near-shore arrangement has no detrimental impact whatsoever on the quality of their service. The time difference is not a problem at all, as the team in Poland seem to work around the clock including weekends.
